1 dead, 1 wounded in Charlotte shootings Saturday

One man was shot to death and another victim seriously wounded in a pair of shootings during a two-hour period around midday Saturday in Charlotte, authorities said.

There is no indication that the shootings were related.

Police were called about 11:15 a.m. to the 3900 block of Bristol Drive, in the Westerly Hills neighborhood between Wilkinson Boulevard and Ashley Road. Officers had been called about a person in need of help, and they reported finding a man’s body in the woods nearby.

The man had been shot, but Charlotte-Mecklenburg police released little other information Saturday. They said detectives were looking for possible witnesses. The name of the victim has not been released.

Then around 1:30 p.m., police responded to a call for help from the 1000 block of North Tryon Street, near the intersection of North College Street just north of the Brookshire Freeway. Officers found a man shot in the neck. Medic said the victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police called out their K-9 dog search unit, but no arrests have been announced.
