Rowan child abuse suspect caught near Asheville

A 23-year-old Rowan County man wanted in connection with the alleged abuse of his 2-month-old child has been arrested in western North Carolina, authorities said.

Dustin Aaron Wilson was taken into custody Monday by officers in Swannanoa, a Buncombe County town near Asheville. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said a number of tips from the public helped authorities find Wilson.

The sheriff’s office said the case was opened in late October, when the infant was treated at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Authorities said the child’s injuries were consistent with child abuse, and they said the infant appeared to have been assaulted.

Felony child abuse warrants were issued for Wilson, and he was added to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office most-wanted list.
