Former Davidson County teacher charged with sex offenses against 2 students

A former Davidson County high school teacher faces 21 felony sex offense charges involving two students at the school, authorities said Wednesday.

Matthew David Belk, 30, of Gold Hill, turned himself in at the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday and was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond.

Authorities said Belk met the victims at South Davidson County High School in Denton, where he was a teacher. The incidents began at Belk’s home in Rowan County in May 2013 and continued until the school was notified of the offenses this month, authorities said.

Belk resigned during the investigation, authorities said.
