Man and woman arrested in Charlotte bank robbery

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man and a woman in Tuesday’s robbery of the Fifth Third Bank branch at 3123 N. Davidson St.

Keia Garnett, 25, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Darius Marshall, 22, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and several traffic violations.

At about noon Tuesday, a man and a woman brandished a firearm, ordered the bank’s employees to the ground and demanded money from tellers, police said. The robbers left with the money.

Witnesses gave arriving officers descriptions of the suspects, and the descriptions were broadcast to officers circulating the area.

An officer observed a motorist who fit the description of the man wanted in the robbery. The officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the vehicle took off and then wrecked nearby. Police arrested Marshall after a brief foot chase.

Patrol officers, meanwhile, observed a woman matching the description of the woman wanted in the robbery. Garnett was taken into custody without incident.

Anyone with additional information about the case or the suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
