A 32-year-old Statesville man was arrested and charged after checks were stolen from a car and home and cashed for thousands of dollars, authorities said.
John Michael Rickert was jailed under a $30,000 secured bond on one count each of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny, and 14 counts each of felony forging and endorsing checks and securities and felony obtaining property by false pretense.
On Nov. 14, a resident reported that his vehicle was broken into and checks stolen. Fourteen checks totaling $11,000 were cashed, Iredell County sheriff’s investigators said.
On Nov. 17, a homeowner in the 500 block of Hams Grove Road said his home was broken into and two checks were stolen and written out for a total of $1,600.
