5-month-old injured, Fort Mill mother charged

A 21-year-old York County mother has been jailed after her 5-month-old child was treated at a Union County medical facility for broken bones, authorities said.

The York County Sheriff’s Office said Tabitha Louise Griffith, of Fort Mill, S.C., was charged with abuse/inflicting great bodily injury upon a child. She is jailed under $50,000 bond, authorities said.

Investigators said they were contacted Monday night by detectives from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, after staff members at Carolinas Medical Center’s emergency hospital in Waxhaw reported that a child had arrived with severe injuries.

The infant was suffering from broken ribs and a broken arm, investigators said. York County detectives contacted Griffith and took her into custody Tuesday afternoon.

The case remains under investigation, according to York County authorities.
