Two people were fatally shot and another injured Wednesday in Cabarrus County’s Odell community before the gunman killed himself, authorities said.
Cabarrus County sheriff’s investigators released few details about the shootings but identified the shooter as Reginald Wyniel Mercer, 30. The names of the victims haven’t been released.
The three victims were shot at a single-story home in the 2400 block of Shiloh Church Road. One person was found dead outside the home. Late Wednesday afternoon, authorities had believed the gunman was still inside the house.
At about 4:30 p.m., SWAT officers entered the home and found a second dead victim.
Authorities had described Mercer as a person of interest in the shootings before they found him dead shortly before 6 p.m. in another house.
The third victim was taken to a local hospital. The person’s condition hadn’t been released.
