Albemarle man charged with rape, indecent liberties with a child

An Albemarle man was arrested Tuesday following an investigation of child sex abuse reported in November, police said.

Michael Lee Burns, 52, of Grigg Street, was charged with two counts of first-degree rape and four counts of indecent liberties with a child, according to Albemarle police.

An investigation began after the parents of the child victim reported the possible sexual abuse in mid-November, officials said.

Burns was arrested without incident and placed under a $220,000 secured bond, according to police. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 15.
