A man was shot and killed by his son Monday morning in northeast Charlotte after an argument, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
Police identified the victim as Willie Herman Golphin, 57. His son, James Golphin, 34, was interviewed by homicide detectives at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department headquarters, then taken to jail and charged with murder. He was being held there late Monday with no bond.
Just before 7 a.m., police were called to a single-story home in the 900 block of Balvenie Court, near Eastway Park and Briarwood Park.
When they arrived, police found Willie Golphin inside the home with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
CMPD Capt. Rob. Dance said a suspect, later identified as James Golphin, was taken into police custody shortly after the shooting.
Police say father and son were involved in an argument just before the shooting, but investigators haven’t said what the argument was about. The two men lived in the same house.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak to a homicide unit detective. Detective Jones is the lead detective assigned to the case. The public can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.
