School bus driver killed in wreck

N.C. Highway Patrol troopers are trying to figure out what led to a wreck in Union County that left a school bus driver dead Monday. Dispatchers said the fatal wreck happened around 3 p.m on New Town Road, near Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road. Officials told WBTV, the Observer’s news partner, that the garbage truck crossed the center line and hit the bus head-on. The bus driver was identified as Timothy Jerome McManus, who’d been with Union County Public Schools for three years, according to WBTV. Authorities have not identified the driver, who troopers say will be charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
