Shots fired but no injuries in Matthews robbery attempt

No injuries were reported Saturday afternoon during an attempted robbery and shooting in Matthews, police said.

The incident was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m. at a residence in the 3200 block of Campus Ridge Road. That is south of Independence Boulevard and east of Interstate 485, near the Mecklenburg-Union county line.

Matthews police said shots were fired during the attempted robbery but the victim was not harmed. The suspect was last seen running south on Campus Ridge Road.

Police said the suspect was described as a black male, about 5-foot-8 and thin, with gold earrings in each ear and a full beard. He was wearing a dark gray zip-up hoodie and gray jeans, and he was armed with a black revolver.
