Police: Teen lured child into store bathroom

Boone police say a 19-year-old lured a 5-year-old girl into the bathroom of a store in an attempt to gain sexual gratification.

According to police, a family was shopping at Michael's on Watauga Valley Drive Saturday morning when they realized their 5-year-old daughter was no longer with them. The family searched the store and found her in the restroom.

Police say they found out that the child had been lured into the bathroom by William Francis Grubb. Grubb left the store before police got there, but police say he was quickly located by first responders.

Investigators say they think there may be more instances of Grubb luring children away from parents.

Captain Andy LeBeu says this investigation is not over, “This is the type of thing that every parent fears. I'm grateful for the quick actions of our officers in the apprehension of this person. Our officers and detectives will continue to investigate this matter. The Child Advocacy Center did, and will be, assisting in the investigation and assessing the needs of the child and her family.”

William Francis Grubb is being charged with felony counts of child abduction, indecent liberties with a minor, kidnapping, and indecent exposure.

Grubb was taken to Watauga County Detention Center where he is being held with out bond. His first court appearance is December 15.
