Lincoln County authorities said they are investigating the theft of 48 tires following a break-in at American Tire Distributors.
The theft happened between Sunday night and 6 a.m. Monday at the business on Finger Mill Road in Lincolnton, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
The suspects cut through a chain link fence and broke into several tractor trailers parked at the site, authorities said. The 48 tires were worth $5,000.
One of the 18-wheel vehicles was wrecked in the parking lot after the thieves ran over a pile of wooden pallets while trying to move the trailer, the sheriff’s office said.
