Man charged with murder of an unborn child

A Marion man assaulted a pregnant woman and killed her unborn child, police say.

Marion police say Jackie Taron Agnew assaulted Monikia Credle by strangling her. Monikia Credle was reportedly 17 weeks pregnant at the time of the attack.

According to police, officers responded to McDowell Hospital on December 29 in response to an assault in the 100 block of Circle Street.

Police say Agnew, 41, strangled and pointed a gun at Credle who miscarried because of the assault.

Warrants for Agnew's arrest included assault by strangulation, assault by pointing a gun, assault on a female, assault in the presence of a minor, and interfering with emergency communication.

Agnew is currently in the McDowell County Jail under a $175,000 secured bond and charged with murder of an unborn child.
