A suspect in Monday’s shooting of a motorist on Sharon Road near SouthPark mall turned himself in Friday at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Providence Division office on North Wendover Road.
Diamonte Cortez Williams, 19, of Clover, S.C., was charged with discharging a weapon into occupied property, a moving vehicle, and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Williams was jailed on a $30,000 bail.

The shooting happened when the victim drove off and Williams followed in another vehicle, police said.

While stopped at the traffic light at Sharon Road and South Park Drive, police said, Williams left his vehicle and began firing a gun at the victim’s vehicle.
As he drove from the shooter, the victim struck another vehicle at the intersection, police said. The victim drove to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord, where he was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening after he was grazed by a bullet, police said.
Police said Williams turned himself in after police found his vehicle Friday afternoon.
CMPD said Monday’s incident was unrelated to a shooting in November outside Northlake Mall and that such incidents outside malls are rare in Charlotte.
A SouthPark mall spokeswoman said the mall won’t comment on the Sharon Road shooting since it happened off the mall’s property on a public road.
Police ask that anyone with information in either shooting call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
