One killed in west Charlotte shooting

One person was killed and police were looking for a suspect after a shooting in west Charlotte Monday evening.

The shooting happened at the Lake Arbor apartments on Timberbrook Drive around 4:30 p.m. That’s off Tuckaseegee Road in an area that has seen several shootings in recent months, including two at a nearby recreation center.

Police said Robert Edward Miller, 26, was shot outside an apartment in the parking lot. The suspect got away in a car, said Capt. Gregg Collins, who oversees the Freedom Division. Police had only a vague description of the man but said they believed the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Dozens of apartment residents watched the police activity from balconies and breezeways. The victim’s body was lying on a sidewalk, behind a screen put up by detectives.

One woman screamed “No! No! No!” in a grassy area near the body, as she was wrapped in a blanket and consoled by family members.

Collins said many people were outside at the time of the shooting and encouraged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tipsters are eligible for a reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Shortly after 11 p.m. in the same complex, a female was shot and taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the Observer’s news partner, WBTV reported. It is unclear if the shootings are related.
