CMPD officer charged with drunken driving

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer has been charged with driving while impaired, police said.

The department’s DWI task force arrested Officer Jared Whitner on Wednesday. He has been an officer for nearly eight years and is assigned to the Westover Division.

According to jail records, Whitner, 30, was arrested at 2:06 a.m.

Whitner has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of criminal and internal investigations.

“The CMPD will continue to hold our officers to the highest standards and accountable for their actions,” Chief Rodney Monroe said in a statement. “This is an extremely dangerous offense and something we as an organization will not tolerate.” Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
