Pair arrested in Union County robbery

Union County sheriff’s investigators arrested a man and a woman in the Dec. 20 robbery of a man near the Crismark subdivision in Indian Trail.

Basil Brandon Blake, 31, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury. He was jailed on a $50,000 bail.

Janet Ward Nance, 40, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Nance also was served with several warrants for violating probation and on an unrelated misdemeanor larceny charge. She was jailed on a $65,500 bail.

Both suspects must appear in court Feb. 3.

The robbery victim told investigators that the suspects gave him a ride to the Crismark subdivision under the ruse of attending a party.

Once the three pulled into the neighborhood, one of the suspects brandished a firearm inside the vehicle and demanded the victim’s money and phone.

The victim was pistol-whipped and left along the road, Sheriff Eddie Cathey said.
