2 dead in north Charlotte shooting

A man and a woman were shot to death Thursday morning during a drug deal in their home in the 200 block of West Avenue, near Rozzelles Ferry Road in northwest Charlotte, police said.

The victims were shot by someone they knew, police said.

Police identified the victims as Jeanila Adams Weber, 44, and Donald Ray Matthews, 52.

Police haven’t released the name of a suspected shooter.

“This was not a random act of violence,” said Keith Trietley, a public affairs officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Medic pronounced the victims dead in their home about 11 a.m.

Homicide detectives were canvassing the area for witnesses on Thursday afternoon. Hours later, West Avenue was still blocked off by crime scene tape and several police crime scene investigation vehicles.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS (8477) and speak directly to a homicide detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
