Matthews police look for suspect in armed robbery

Matthews police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the man they say robbed a Dunkin’ Donuts at gunpoint Thursday night.

A man with a semi-automatic handgun robbed the business at 9005 E. Independence Blvd. around 6:30 p.m. and was last seen running south in the parking lot, police said. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.

Police describe the suspect as a black male between the ages of 25 and 30 with a medium- to large build, approximately 6 feet tall with a short haircut.

The suspect was wearing a light blue hoodie, blue jeans and tan “Timberland” style boots, police said. Witnesses said the suspect’s nose was covered in what looked like white sunscreen or some type of makeup.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Matthews Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division: 704-847-5555.
