Denver, NC, man shot after night of drinking at Lake Norman bar

A Denver, N.C., man was shot by his roommate early Tuesday after a night of drinking at a Lake Norman bar, authorities said.

Charles Edward Harvell, 44, was shot in the chest with a .38-caliber pistol. Emergency responders airlifted Harvell to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he was listed in stable condition.

Lincoln County sheriff’s investigators arrested and charged Harvell’s roommate, George Ronald Lovell, 58, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Lovell was jailed and held on $75,000 bail.

Authorities said Harvell and Lovell, both of 4827 Maralane Trail, argued after returning home from drinking alcohol at Twin Oaks Bar and Grill on Slanting Bridge Road in Sherrills Ford.

Lovell ran to a neighbor’s home about 2:40 a.m. and asked them to call 911, investigators said. Lovell was taken into custody without incident.
