Charlotte police chief, district attorney to tout home visits

Two of the county’s top law enforcement officials are calling on Congress to renew a federal/state program to head off the arrests of women.

Mecklenburg County District Attorney Andrew Murray and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe will hold a news conference Thursday to discuss “Orange is Not Your Color.”

The new report details how home visits by nurses and other trained professionals can reduce stress for young or expectant mothers and reduce child abuse, neglect and future crime.

The mothers are trained to meet their children’s emotional needs and how to respond in stressful situations.

Monroe and Murray will speak at 10 a.m. at the police department, 601 E. Trade St. Michael Gordon
