Man charged in Charlotte animal cruelty case

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged a man with animal cruelty in the Jan. 13 pepper-spraying of a dog that was in a vehicle at the 7-11 gas station at 12710 S. Tryon St.

Robert Cloud, 50, turned himself in at CMPD’s Steele Creek Division office on Westinghouse Boulevard on Wednesday night after seeing his picture in the news, police said.

About 2:15 p.m. Jan. 13, police said, a man approached the vehicle and sprayed pepper spray through a small opening in the window. The spray caused pain and irritation to the dog but no permanent injury, police said.
