CMPD Chief Monroe testifies at presidential task force hearing

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Chief Rodney Monroe testified Friday in Cincinnati as part of President Barack Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.

The task force was established in December. It is looking into ways to strengthen public trust and foster strong relationships between local law enforcement and the communities they serve.

The nation has seen that trust challenged after high-profile killings of black men by police in New York and Ferguson, Mo.

The task force event is at the University of Cincinnati. Monroe planned to discuss recommendations regarding mass demonstrations, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
