A Mount Holly man was sentenced to at least 7  1/2 years in prison for trafficking heroin throughout Charlotte, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Marco Ramirez-Cruz, 40, was sentenced in Mecklenburg County Superior Court after pleading guilty to trafficking in heroin by transportation.

In January 2015, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and federal agents conducted surveillance on a home authorities learned was a “stash house” for heroin, prosecutors said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives saw Ramirez-Cruz and another person leave the house early one morning. Police followed Ramirez-Cruz as he drove throughout Charlotte selling heroin.

State Highway Patrol troopers stopped his truck and found at least 70 grams of heroin inside, according to the district attorney’s office.

CMPD detectives obtained a search warrant for the stash house and found at least 700 grams of heroin, $15,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia, prosecutors said.
