A woman was arrested for having heroin in her purse after she called 911 to report an overdose at a Lake Norman home near Mooresville this week.

Morgan Taylor Nicholson, 22, of Salisbury, told sheriff’s deputies that she and the victim overdosed while “doing cocaine and heroin,” Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said.

While investigating the overdose, deputies obtained a warrant to search the home in the 200 block of Canvasback Road, where large amounts of cocaine and heroin were found, Campbell said.

Nicholson was charged with possession of a schedule one controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was jailed on $3,5000 bail.

The sheriff’s office has not released the name or condition of the victim.

North Carolina has a Good Samaritan Law that bars arresting someone on drug charges who reports an overdose or is experiencing an overdose. Nicholson was charged because the heroin was found in her purse and not directly related to the overdose, sheriff’s Maj. Todd Carver told the (Statesville) Record & Landmark newspaper.
