A Belmont man was arrested this week on heroin trafficking and other drug charges.
Gaston County Police Department’s Special Investigation Unit charged Edward Ray Scruggs Jr., 24, with trafficking heroin by possession and trafficking heroin by manufacture. Scruggs was jailed on $50,000 bail.
Police arrested Scruggs after an extensive investigation that led to the execution of a search warrant at a home on Geer Street in Lowell. Scruggs lived there at the time.
Police found at least $2,000 cash, 27 grams of heroin, a strip of Fentanyl, which is an addictive pain medication, and 23 dosage units of alprazolam, the generic of the addictive Xanax drug that treats anxiety and panic disorder.
More charges are expected, police said.
