State and local transit planners focus on northeast Charlotte at meeting tonight

A broad review of state and local transportation projects planned in the Newell community and other neighborhoods in northeast Charlotte will be presented at a public meeting tonight.

The meeting to discuss light rail, road projects, trails and other pedestrian-friendly improvements is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. at Newell Presbyterian Church, 1500 Rocky River Road West.

Several government agencies will discuss projects during the Rocky River Road West design presentation and northeast transportation update. Among them:

▪ N.C. Department of Transportation: Bridges on North Tryon Street over Mallard Creek; improvements at the University City Boulevard and Cameron Boulevard intersection; Graham Street extension; Grier Road and Sugar Creek grade separations; and completion of Interstate 485 loop.

▪ City of Charlotte: Review of the design plans for Rocky River Road West and other projects. Also update on the Blue Line Extension light rail project; City Boulevard, Orr Road and University Pointe Boulevard extensions; Cross Charlotte Trail, Back Creek Church Road; Interstate 85 north bridge; Charlotte Walks; and McCullough Drive streetscape and extension.
