Pine Lake Preparatory opened with more than 1,000 students last week, but it also opened up a problem.
N.C. 115 is only two lanes in front of the school, and that has created massive traffic jams as students enter in the mornings and head out in the afternoons.
The school is trying to fix the problem. It has implemented a policy with staggered drop-off and pickup times, where middle school and elementary students are picked up and dropped off at different times and different locations. It has also banned parking along Yellow Wood Circle (the school's entrance road) until 15 minutes before school or after school. No parallel parking is permitted on that street.
But since the school is in its first year on its new campus, it might take some time to get a smooth traffic plan. So commuters in the area will have to stay alert (and patient) between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and again from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
