Poster, essays speak to ‘Living Soil’

Charlotte Christian School had five placing entries – including a sweep of first through third places in the essay competition – in “The Living Soil” poster/essay contest sponsored by the Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District.

Sixth-graders Alyssa Snyder, Corey Griffin and Griffin Schuler won first through third places in the essays. Grace Hulbert won the sixth-grade category in the poster contest (top); Cameron Mehta was third.

Charlotte Country Day swept the third-grade division of the poster contest, with Sophia Saxonhouse’s entry (bottom) finishing first. Mary Morgan Harker and Macon Mobley finished second and third. Macy Edwards was second among fourth-graders.

Tigest Aboye of Idlewild Elementary won the fourth-grade poster contest; Thomasboro Academy’s Lee Bumbre won in fifth grade.

Other runners-up were Chadley Schmidt, Smithfield Elementary, fifth grade; Abby Matthews, Charlotte Latin School, sixth grade. Other third-place winners were Maya Hutgalung, Countryside Montessori School, fourth grade; Caroline Giles and Martin Jabalonski, Smithfield Elementary, fifth grade (tie).
