MeckEd honors 20 as Teachers of Excellence

MeckEd, an advocacy group that supports Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, honored 20 outstanding teachers from the district at a Wednesday reception at the Westin hotel.

“The art of teaching is very challenging work that requires patience, persistence, love and compassion,” said Executive Director Bill Anderson.

The MeckEd Teachers of Excellence were nominated by principals and chosen based on classroom performance, leadership and school service. They are: Lara Bennett of Grier Elementary, Sana Chakra of Davis Military/Leadership Academy, Robert Egnot of Piedmont Middle, Coco Ellis of Martin Luther King Jr. Middle, Ashley Ferwerda of Reedy Creek Elementary, Silas Fincher of Ardrey Kell High, Sara Fisher of Whitewater Elementary, Kelly Freiheit of Walter G. Byers School, Ashley Giblin of Berryhill School, Lance Kanter of Community House Middle, Jessica Kilbride of Albemarle Road Elementary, Beth Linkston of Olympic High International Studies and Global Economics School, Mindy Mahar of Sedgefield Middle, Julie McConnell of Hough High, Amy Platte of Dilworth Elementary, Phyllis Robinson of Steele Creek Elementary, Patrick Sahd of Providence High, Dawn Salters of McClintock Middle, Allee Jo TenBieg of Sterling Elementary and Amanda Wheeler of Bailey Middle.
