A Gaston County teen just six days from high school graduation was killed Sunday evening when the vehicle her father was driving crashed in the eastern part of the county.
Arielle Reid, 18, a senior at Highland School of Technology, died in the crash on Lowland Dairy Road, near Old Highway 27. That is north of Mount Holly.
Troopers said the car, driven by Michael Reid, went off the road, struck a tree, and then landed on its side. Michael Reid and his 6-year-old son, who was riding in a car seat in the back seat of the car, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said. Arielle Reid, riding in the front passenger seat, died at the scene.
Troopers are investigating to determine what caused the crash.
