Admins from CMS, Cabarrus among Nashville superintendent candidates

Two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools administrators show up in a list of nearly 50 people who have applied to lead the metro Nashville school district.

Barry Shepherd, who recently retired as superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools, also shows up as having started an application but not submitted it, according to a news report in the Tennessean.

The newspaper published a list of 49 names that search firm HYA Executive Search had heard from while recruiting for a new Metro Nashville Public Schools director, obtained through a public records request.

The two CMS administrators are executive directors of district learning communities.

▪ Marty Conner Sr., executive director of the Northeast-Vance Learning Community.

▪ Lillie Cox, executive director of the West Learning Community. She’s a former superintendent of the Alamance-Burlington School System.

Shepherd’s name has also surfaced in the search for a superintendent in the Berkeley (S.C.) County school system, according to the Independent-Tribune.

The Nashville school board is expected to get a short list of candidates next week. It might contain names not on the published list, because some candidates balk at the idea of having their name out in the public.
