Pender’s Grocery, 1935

Tarboro native David Pender built a chain of grocery stores in Virginia and North Carolina and by 1926 had a total of 246 locations. Pender’s is a distant relative of the more familiar (now defunct) Colonial and Big Star grocery stores.
