Dilworth Master Model Home, 1929

“From the high type basement to the permanent roof, this home is truly a model of models!” August 18, 1929
“From the high type basement to the permanent roof, this home is truly a model of models!” August 18, 1929 The Charlotte Observer

This beautiful house on a (now) tree-lined street was a “model home” in 1929. I wasn’t able to find the price/cost/value for the house in 1929 but records show the 2014 tax value was $907,500.

I hope you enjoy the photos -- the Observer sponsored the project so there are a LOT!

From the Charlotte Observer, April 14, 1929:

Demonstration Master Model Home

Will Be Sponsored by Observer and Built by Home Real Estate and Guaranty Co.

Work has begun on The Charlotte Observer demonstration Master Model Home, which will occupy a site at the south east corner of Lexington and Mr. Vernon streets one block off of Dilworth Road.

The object of this home construction is to show that better homes can be built at what is considered a standard price, that is, a price usually paid for such a class of home. ... when completed, the Master Model Home will represent a cost available to anyone desiring to build such a home.
