Billy Graham Parkway northbound reopened shortly after 7:30 a.m. following a deadly accident early Friday.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:59 a.m. by paramedics, Medic said at 7 a.m. Earlier reports from media at the scene had said two people had died.

The road had been closed between accident Tyvola Road and West Boulevard, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said

A car was found on fire in the nearby woods, reported WBTV, the Observer’s news partner. The vehicle was removed by around 7:20 a.m.

CMPD said there also was a fatal accident at 946 E. Fifth Street in Charlotte. The victim was Scott Alexander Harper II, whose 2002 Chevrolet Camaro was found resting against a tree.

Speed was a factor in the single-vehicle crash, police said. Medic said it responded to the scene at 2:15 a.m., where paramedics pronounced the victim dead.

And shortly before 8:30 a.m., Charlotte Water said that the curb lane on the 400 block of West Trade Street at Mint Street will be closed for six to eight hours for water main repair work.
