Construction on I-85 from exit 42 to exit 45A north of Charlotte will stop all traffic this week, according to the Charlotte Department of Transportation.
Both lanes will be open on Wednesday.
Traffic will be stopped at 11 p.m. and will reopen at 5 a.m.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will have traffic controls indicating the delays along intersections near the highway and will have officers directing traffic.
Signs will be on the interstate warning drivers in advance and providing detour directions.
CDOT said the best re-routes for Charlotte traffic include using N. Tryon Street.
Motorist passing through the Charlotte area are encouraged to take I-77 or I-485.
Access for residency and Charlotte Area Transit System will not be affected.
