RALEIGH The national controversy over HB2, North Carolina’s new law regarding LGBT protections, transgender people’s bathroom access and the power (or lack thereof) of municipalities has grown and grown.

It got to the point where, over the weekend, Gov. Pat McCrory felt the need to put out an 18-point fact check of his own, debunking what he called media myths. We decided to double-check his work.

This is the first fact check of the governor’s fact check. It’s about the $4.5 billion in federal funding North Carolina may or may not be in danger of losing.
