U.S. Sen.-elect Thom Tillis promised Wednesday to work across the aisle in Washington to “prove to the American citizens that we can govern.”
In his first news conference since defeating Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan Tuesday, Tillis said Republicans would use their new majority to accomplish things that President Barack Obama would sign into law.
“We’ve been given an opportunity to lead and now we have to lead,” he told reporters. “And that means moving bills from the House and the Senate to the president’s desk.
