A South Carolina sheriff says a deputy shot and wounded a man who was armed with a rifle.
Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride tells Anderson Independent-Mail the man was wounded early Sunday and taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities didn't immediately release his identity or condition. McBride says the deputy attempted to pull over a pickup truck that was driving erratically, but the driver fled.
He says that deputy and another chased the driver, who then rammed their cars and disabled one of them. He says the driver then tried to ram another patrol car, disabling the truck. He says the driver then pulled out a rifle and was shot.
The deputy is on administrative leave pending an investigation by state law enforcement.
