Rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the Charlotte area Friday afternoon, and could cause headaches for the drive home.
There is an 80 percent chance the precipitation will happen between 3 and 6 p.m., National Weather Service meteorologist Harry Gerapetritis said. The storms also could produce scattered instances of strong wind gusts and large hail, he said.
Showers could linger through the evening, Gerapetritis said, before the area dries out after midnight.
“Then it will be a really nice, dry weekend,” he added.
Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny, with highs Saturday in the mid 70s, and highs in the lower 70s for Sunday. Clouds return late Sunday.
The next chance of rain will arrive Monday afternoon, according to the weather service. And there is a 50 percent chance of rain Monday night and Tuesday.
