Who would you thank?

For more than two decades, the Observer’s editorial board has said “thank you” at the end of the year to people in our city and region who are making a difference. There are thousands of such people giving of their time, money and talents to make this a more prosperous and livable place. We honor them each year by highlighting a few of them.

Usually these are unsung heroes doing meaningful work outside the public spotlight, though occasionally we honor someone very well-known. It could be an extraordinary teacher, say, or a social entrepreneur whose organization is changing lives. Anyone, really, having a powerful impact on others.

This year, we want your nominations. Who deserves a pat on the back? Who is making an unusual or unnoticed yet indelible contribution to society?

E-mail your nominations to Associate Editor Eric Frazier at efrazier@charlotteobserver.com this week. The board will go through them and produce a special package in the Dec. 31 Observer.
