Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte Hornets Observations

• Clearly Hornets small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is out for a while longer with that stress reaction in his right foot. Coach Steve Clifford said Kidd-Gilchrist isn’t allowed to shoot because the medical staff doesn’t want him jumping.

• Luol Deng isn’t LeBron James – who is? – but he’s a good fit for Miami’s offense. The Heat wants to spread the floor with 3-point shooting, and that gives Deng driving lanes either to get to the rim or hit pull-up jump shots.

• Hornets rookie P.J. Hairston missed his third straight game with a sprained right ankle. Hairston has been able to do very little on the court so far, so it’s a given he’ll also miss Monday’s home game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

• Gary Neal might have been brought to the Hornets as a shooter, but he’s so much more. He can dribble-drive in ways that open the floor for teammates.

• The Heat still draws well at home, but the Miami crowd might be second only to the Lakers’ as far as late arrival. Fifteen minutes before tip-off, the building seemed all but deserted.
