Charlotte 49ers basketball player Najee Garvin has been suspended indefinitely from the team after he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of assaulting a female Thursday.
The 49ers athletics department released a statement: “UNC Charlotte is aware of the arrest of student-athlete Najee Garvin. Garvin has been indefinitely suspended from all team activities. The University is reviewing the case consistent with its internal procedures. In light of the ongoing investigation, the University will not provide further comments.”
Garvin, a junior forward from Lexington, S.C., started 29 games for the 49ers last season, averaging 7.2 points and 5.0 rebounds. He was arrested by the UNC Charlotte Police Department at 4:08 p.m. Thursday. After appearing in Mecklenburg County district court Friday morning, Garvin was released on $2,500 bail.
The 49ers start basketball practice Tuesday afternoon.
