Clemson hits the ground running in its season opener, facing the Bulldogs in a series that dates back to 1897. … Georgia holds a 41-18-4 advantage in the series, but Clemson won last year’s game 38-35. … A win by the Tigers would give them back-to-back victories over the Bulldogs for the first time since 1990. Central could prove troublesome on special teams – Adrian Wilkins had an NCAA-best five return touchdowns, and the Eagles led the nation in kick return average (26.5 yards) and kick return TDs (four). The Bulldogs open the season against the Paladins, ranked 18th in the nation in the Football Championship Subdivision coaches’ poll. … Furman leads the all-time series 3-1, but Gardner-Webb won last year’s game, 28-21 in Boiling Springs. … Both teams are coming off winning seasons – the Bulldogs went 7-5, their best record since 2003; the Paladins finished 8-6, their best record since 2006, and won their 13th Southern Conference title.
