Inside the SEC 09.20.14

Three to watch

Troy at No. 13 Georgia, noon (SEC Network)

The Bulldogs will have no problem bouncing back quickly from loss to South Carolina against winless Trojans of the Sun Belt.

Florida at No. 3 Alabama, 3:30 p.m. (WBTV, ch. 3)

Gators were hardly impressive in beating Kentucky in triple overtime last week. Florida coach Will Muschamp facing former boss in Alabama’s Nick Saban.

No. 14 South Carolina at Vanderbilt, 7:30 p.m. (SEC Network)

Will Steve Spurrier keep with that ball-control offense that was so effective in beating Georgia? It should be just as effective against the Commodores.

• Vanderbilt’s quarterback situation is still very fluid. Coach Derek Mason said Patton Robinette will start against South Carolina, with Wade Freebeck backing him up. Freebeck started last week against Massachusetts. In the meantime, Stephen Rivers (Philip’s younger brother) started and played the entire game against Mississippi two weeks ago – but hasn’t played since.

• Southern Methodist goes to Texas A&M without a victory this season and with a new coach in Tom Mason, who replaces June Jones, who resigned after the Mustangs lost to North Texas.

• No. 18 Missouri is facing an Indiana team that has a 13-game road losing streak against ranked teams. Indiana couldn’t even win at the Mid-American Conference’s Bowling Green last week.

• Mississippi State has rolled over teams from Conference USA (Southern Mississippi, Alabama-Birmingham) and the Sun Belt (South Alabama) in its first three games. It gets tougher for the Bulldogs on Saturday at Louisiana State.
