Jon Davis signed a letter of intent with the Charlotte 49ers on Thursday, becoming coach Mark Price’s first recruit.
Davis, a 6-foot-3 point guard, averaged 14 points and seven assists last season for Hargrave Military Academy, a prep school in Chatham, Va. Hargrave won 38 games in Davis’ one season there.
“I am extremely excited to add Jon Davis to the 49ers basketball family,” Price said in a statement. “I am excited about his ability to play multiple positions, especially point guard. He has great size and court awareness. Jon is a great facilitator who can shoot the ball as well.”
Davis, who grew up in Upper Marlboro, Md., originally accepted a scholarship to DePaul before choosing to spend a year at Hargrave.

Price was an All-Star point guard in the NBA before retiring and going into coaching. Before accepting the 49ers’ position this spring, he was an assistant with the Charlotte Hornets.
“I am honored to be coach Price’s – who is one of the greatest point guards of all time – first recruit,” Davis said. “Coach Price and the rest of the 49ers coaching staff have shown a lot of faith in me.”
