USC takes advantage of UGa

Laimonas Chatkevicius scored 12 points, Duane Notice had 11 and South Carolina ended a four-game losing streak with a 67-50 victory over Georgia on Saturday.

The Gamecocks (11-9, 2-6 SEC) won for just the second time since toppling then-No. 9 Iowa State in Brooklyn.

Georgia played without leading scorer and rebounder Marcus Thornton, who remained home with a concussion, and shot just 4 of 24 from the field in the second half.

South Carolina starter Demetrius Henry did not play with a concussion.

ATLANTIC SUN

USC Upstate 79, North Florida 74: Ty Greene scored a career-high 39 points, hitting a career-best 8 of 11 3-pointers for visiting USC Upstate (16-7, 4-3).

BIG SOUTH

Gardner-Webb 66, Coastal Carolina 64: Tyrell Nelson’s tip-in with two seconds left won it for the host Bulldogs (14-9, 6-4). Jerome Hill led Gardner-Webb with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Badou Diagne scored 15 for the Chanticleers (15-7, 6-4).

Radford 73, Winthrop 66: Javonte Green scored the game’s final four points to give host Radford the win. The Eagles are 11-10, 6-4.

UNC Asheville 70, Campbell 63: Andrew Rowsey scored 19 points and Kevin Vannatta a career-high 18 as host UNC Asheville (11-1, 7-3) recovered from a 16-point first-half deficit. Curtis Phillips scored a career-high 17 points for the Camels (8-15, 2-8).

CIAA

Fayetteville State 77, Saint Augustine’s 75: The host Broncos (11-10, 5-6) won behind 15 points from Torian Showers.

MEAC

S.C. State 78, Delaware State 74: Edward Stephens finished with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists for the host Bulldogs (8-15, 6-3).

N.C. A&T 62, Savannah State 59: Ahmad Abdullah scored 17 points and Steven Burrough added 15 points with five blocks for the visiting Aggies (6-17, 3-6).

East Tennessee State 61, N.C. Central 59: Jalen Riley knocked down a 3 with 13 seconds left, capping his 12 straight points for the host Buccaneers. N.C. Central (16-6) led 35-28 at the break, and Jordan Parks’ dunk with 5:44 left held it at a 12-point advantage.

SOUTH ATLANTIC

Brevard 74, Lenoir-Rhyne 63: Miles Leathers led the host Tornados (9-11, 7-7) with 20 points.

Wingate 81, Mars Hill 44: The host Bulldogs (11-9, 8-6) got 43 points from their bench. Terrill Hilliard led all scorers with 16 points.

Carson-Newman 77, Catawba 75: Carson-Newman (9-10, 7-6) got 26 points from Charles Clark in Jefferson City, Tenn. The Indians are 8-10, 6-7.

SOUTHERN CONFERENCE

Western Carolina 78, UNC Greensboro 73: Mike Brown had 12 points, 13 rebounds and three steals for the visiting Catamounts (11-12, 6-5). Nicholas Paulos scored six straight points to pull UNC Greensboro to within 53-52, but the Spartans could not push past. Tevon Saddler scored 18 for the Spartans (6-17, 2-8).

Samford 68, Furman 58: Darius Jones-Gibson scored 19 and host Samford 10-14, 3-8) made its free throws at the end. Stephen Croone led Furman (7-14, 4-6) with 28 points.

Wofford 49, Mercer 46: Host Wofford (18-5, 9-1) held Mercer scoreless for the final six-plus minutes. The Bears missed their final eight field goal attempts and committed three turnovers in the final 4:28.
