Two teams join the Sweet 16 this week: 4A A.L. Brown and 4A Lake Norman.

Lake Norman upset Hough 35-34 Friday on the road, when Hough was unbeaten and the No. 2 ranked team in the poll. Lake Norman was down 34-21 before it rallied to win. As a result, Hough fell seven spots to No. 9. Lake Norman jumped into the poll at No. 13.

A.L. Brown beat No. 11 Concord to start the season, despite losing its starting quarterback, and the Wonders have kept on winning. In three games, coach Mike Newsome’s team has outscored opponents 144-26. Brown will play at rival Mooresville Friday in the Patriotism Bowl, which is a promotion that honors current and former U.S. armed services members.

With Hough and South Mecklenburg falling -- the Sabres were handled by Rock Hill Northwestern Friday and dropped from No. 6 to No. 12 -- it created some shuffling among ranked teams.

Charlotte Christian bolted to No. 6, jumping four spots, and Vance jumped two spots to fifth. Vance beat Virginia power George Washington 48-7 Saturday. Charlotte Christian, which has already beaten reigning N.C. 4A public school champ Charlotte Catholic, beat N.C. 3A public school Cuthbertson 49-19 in Monroe Saturday.
