Hot Starters: regional high school running backs off to blazing starts in 2017

JAKE ALEXANDER, BELMONT SOUTH POINT, 6-0, 195, SR: rushed 137 times for 864 yards. He averages more than six yards per carry and has 12 TDs. National Honor Society member has 4.5 GPA and is being recruited by The Citadel and Davidson.

JULIAN BODDIE, PROVIDENCE, 5-10, 190, SR: 136 carries for 816 yards and nine touchdowns; also has 12 catches for 129 yards.

BRITISH BROOKS, ASHBROOK, 5-11, 202, SR: Has 93 carries for 570 yards and seven TDs in four games. Rushed 161 times for 1,252 yards and 16 TDs as junior. Being recruited by UNC, Wake, Elon, James Madison and Charlotte.

ELIJAH BURRIS, MOUNTAIN ISLAND CHARTER, 5-10, 205, SOPH: In three of his team’s four games, Burris has only played two full quarters. He’s rushed 51 times for 531 yards and seven touchdowns. Being recruited by UNC, Notre Dame, N.C. State, ODU and Virginia Tech.

KALEN CLARK, VANCE, 5-10, 195, SR: Had more than 1,000 yards rushing as a junior. Has 58 carries for 512 yards this season in four games. Team captain has college interest from The Citadel, Princeton, Lehigh and Concord.

CAMERON DAVIS, NORTH STANLY, 5-9, 190, JR: Rushed 66 times for 1,030 yards in four games, ranking among top 10 nationally in rushing. Davis, who has 13 rushing TDs, is being recruited by Charlotte and N.C. State.

TAYE DULA, JEREMY BOYCE, WEST CALDWELL: Dula, a senior, has played four games and rushed 49 times for 533 yards. He’s a team captain. Boyce, a senior, has played in three games, rushing 73 times for 507 yards and two scores.

NICKEL FIELDS, PROVIDENCE DAY SCHOOL, 5-9, 180, FR: Rushed 73 times for 581 yards and five scores, averaging eight yards per carry. Also has six catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. Has two interceptions, one returned for a score.

ISHOD FINGER, METROLINA CHRISTIAN, 5-6, 165, SR: Carries 3.4 GPA and rushed 78 times for 787 yards and 15 scores, averaging 10 yards per carry. Recruitment from Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb and Liberty, among others.

LAZ HAYES, MOORESVILLE, 5-10, 190: 72 carries for 522 years, four TDs. Holds Gardner-Webb offer.

MILAN HOWARD, CHARLOTTE CATHOLIC, 5-11, 182, SR: 54 carries, 423 yards and five touchdowns, averaging nearly eight yards per attempt. Caught nine passes for 116 yards and two scores. Offers from Elon, The Citadel, Eastern Kentucky and East Tennessee State. Recruitment from East Carolina and North Carolina.

JALEEL MCLAUGHLIN, FOREST HILLS, 5-10, 175, SR: In five games, rushed 69 times for 524 yards, seven scores. Has eight kick returns for 262 yards. Sophomore teammate Jadus Davis has 42 carries for 400 yards and five scores.

DEMETRIUS MAUNEY, EAST RUTHERFORD, 6-1, 190, JR: In five games, rushed 55 times for 619 yards, averaging 11.3 yards per carry. Recruitment from UNC, Duke, Virginia Tech.

DANTE MILLER, RICHMOND SENIOR, 5-9, 185, SR: Runs electronic 4.3-second 40 and has 4.6 GPA. Rushed 62 times for 511 yards (8.3 yards per carry) with seven touchdowns. Offers from Gardner-Webb, Navy, Wofford. Interest from App State, East Carolina, James Madison

JARRETT NAGY, HOUGH, 5-9, 190, SR: Rushed 69 times for 441 yards and four touchdowns. Had more than 1,000 yards as a junior. Two-way starter has 4.6 GPA.

MCKINLEY NELSON, MONROE, 5-11, 182, JR: In four games, rushed 65 times for 424 yards and has 11 catches for 126 yards. He has eight rushing scores and two receiving. Averages six tackles per game.

GABE ORTIZ, CANNON, 5-7, 155, JR: In four games, rushed 49 times for 445 yards, averaging more than nine yards per carry. First-year starter has seven rushing TDs.

DAMON ROUSE, OLYMPIC, 5-10, 205, SR: in five games, rushed 114 times for 808 yards and eight touchdowns. He averages 7.09 yards per carry.

QUENTIN SANDERS, LEWISVILLE, 6-0, 178, SR: 97 carries for 765 yards and eight TDs; 14 catches for 249 yards and five TDs. South Carolina’s rushing leader has offers from Marshall and S.C. State.

BRYCE SATTERFIELD, WATAUGA, 5-11, 160, SOPH: Son of Appalachian State football coach Scott Satterfield has 463 yards and 11 touchdowns on 58 carries — an average of 7.9 yards per carry for the 4-0 Pioneers.

TYLOR STINSON, NEWTON-CONOVER, 6-1, 235, SR: Rushed for 500 yards and seven touchdowns this fall. Had more than 1,400 yards and 20 touchdowns last season.

DEMARKES STRADFORD, CHARLOTTE LATIN, 6-0, 185, SR: Started since freshman year. Harvard commit has run 45 times for 544 yards in four games and five touchdowns.

JUSTUS WOODS, CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN, 6-1, 200, SR: Stanford recruit has a 4.5 GPA has has rushed 53 times for 377 yards and four touchdowns in three games. Caught nine passes for 293 yards and six touchdowns.
